How perinatal support in Washington works

What to expect

Serenity Counseling Northwest

The path to parenthood is one of the most significant identity transitions a person can move through and incidentally, one of the least prepared for.

We're told what to expect from our bodies. We're given lists and timelines and milestones. What we're rarely told is that becoming a parent can feel like losing yourself before you’ve had a chance to find out who you’re becoming. That the love can be enormous and the grief can be real at the same time. That you can be grateful and overwhelmed and lonely in the same breath, and that none of that makes you a bad parent.

It makes you human. And it makes sense to want support.

Therapy for fertility, pregnancy, postpartum and new parenthood.

Conception ambivalence

Intrusive thinking

Relationship strain in new parenthood

Identity shifts in parenthood

Postpartum depression and overwhelm

Birth trauma

Pregnancy and postpartum anxiety

Fertility and reproductive stress

Perinatal support might be for you if ...

You are trying to conceive and the emotional weight of that process has become harder to carry than you expected.

You are pregnant and feel more anxious, disconnected, or conflicted than you thought you would.

You have recently given birth and something feels off - not just tired, but genuinely unlike yourself.

You are deep in the postpartum period and still waiting to feel like you again.

You love your child and you are also grieving something - your old life, your old self, a birth experience that didn’t go the way you hoped.

You are a non-birthing parent navigating your own version of this transition, and feeling like there isn’t much space for what you’re carrying.

You are not in crisis - but you know you don’t want to keep doing this alone.

Stop doing this season alone

Find language for what you've been carrying, and permission to say it out loud

Hold the exhaustion and the love, the doubt and the confidence, without any of it undoing you

Feel less like you're managing a role and more like yourself again

Frequently asked questions

Perinatal refers to the full period surrounding pregnancy and birth - from the time you begin trying to conceive through the postpartum period and into early parenthood.

My perinatal mental health counseling covers fertility and reproductive stress, pregnancy, postpartum depression and anxiety, birth trauma, and the identity shifts that come with becoming a parent. If you’re not sure whether what you’re experiencing falls within this scope, reach out and we’ll talk through it.

Perinatal mental health sits at the intersection of identity, relationship, and profound biological change. That's why I bring a relational, attachment-based lens to this work - which means I am not just tracking your symptoms, I am paying attention to who you are inside this experience, and who you are becoming through it.

I offer care that is culturally responsive - which means I understand that the perinatal experience does not happen in a vacuum. It happens inside a family system, a cultural context, a set of expectations about what a good mother looks like. Those layers matter, and they are welcome here.

I work with both birthing and non-birthing individuals, and I hold space for the full complexity of this season - including ambivalence, identity shifts, and the parts of new parenthood that are hard to say out loud.

I am a certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional (PMH-C), which reflects a specialized level of training in the clinical realities of the perinatal period - from prenatal anxiety to postpartum depression to birth trauma and beyond.

I understand how hard it can be to carve out uninterrupted time in the postpartum period. While our sessions are most useful when you have some space to yourself, I never want logistics to be the reason you don’t access support during such a critical season. If your baby needs to be present on occasion, we’ll make it work.

Yes. The transition into parenthood affects the whole family system, and non-birthing individuals are often navigating their own significant emotional experience without much space to process it. You are welcome here too.

PMH-C stands for Perinatal Mental Health Certified - a specialized certification that reflects advanced training in the clinical realities of the perinatal period, including prenatal anxiety, postpartum depression, birth trauma, pregnancy loss, and the psychological experience of the transition into parenthood. It means this isn’t just an area of interest for me - it’s an area of dedicated clinical focus.
